August-- Gladiolus
Gladiolus or gladiola is the birth flower for August. They are native to Eurasia and South Africa. The Latin word for sword is “gladius” which is relative to gladiators and has been said to pierce the heart with their beauty. The corm (the bulb above the root) of the gladiolus is edible. Gladioli signify remembrance, strength, sincerity, grace, moral integrity and strength of character.
